Shoot 35 Shoulder Support and Hand Grips review
Last week we were shooting in Westfield Shopping Centre, London it was the first opportunity I had to use our new Shoot 35 Shoulder Support & Hand Grips. We didn’t have the matte box and filters on the camera, just the grips and follow focus.
First Impressions
Very very good. As always the build quality of the rig is very high, and it feels really sturdy. With a 7D and the 24-70mm L lens it felt great. There is no counter balance off the back of the shoulder so most of the weight was on the hands, but this wasn’t a problem.
You’ll see in the picture above that I actually was using one of the hand grips as a handle above the unit. I wouldn’t do this on every video production shoot, but on this location there was a lot of stop start recording and kit wasn’t allowed to be left anywhere.
We shot for an entire day with the camera on and off the shoulder, and it was a joy to work with.
Advantages of the Shoot 35 rig
Great build quality, price, local UK company.
Things that could be improved
The locking nut on the handles isn’t very well placed and it is tough to tighten it as the support pole gets in the way! But this is just a niggle.
I’d also like the option for a counter weight that sits behind the shoulder line, to put more of the camera’s weight on the shoulder.
